2021 cadillac crossover8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() The small crossover is one of the more dynamic options in the class thanks to its expertly tuned suspension, which affords it a sporty feel. Like most modern Cadillacs, the XT4 is very nice to drive. This specific XT4 also wears the brand’s stunning Autumn Metallic orange paint, a $625 option that feels worth every penny. Load up on passengers and cargo, hook up a trailer or horse box, and I'd be unsurprised to see single-digits.Our Premium Luxury tester (slotted between the base Luxury and range-topping Sport) gets trim-specific satin chrome finishes around the windows, on the lower fascia, and even dons satin roof rails. My own mixed driving – with little thought given to economy – clocked up just over 14 mpg. The two-wheel drive version adds a point to each of those figures. On the highway, the EPA says you could get 19 mpg in the all-wheel drive Escalade, compared to 14 mpg in the city and 16 mpg combined. My test car wasn't fitted with they system – it'll be available later on in production, Cadillac says – but I've been for a pre-production ride in it and come away impressed. What makes the head-tracking system "Enhanced" is that it can now automatically change lanes for you: tap the indicator, and the Escalade will look for a safe gap and then smoothly move over, without Super Cruise disengaging during the maneuver. You can control the music, navigation, and make calls, but you can't change HVAC settings, open or close windows, or access the SUV's other systems by voice.Īs before, Super Cruise can maintain your distance from the car in front, and keep your position in the center of the lane, using high-definition mapping for 200,000+ miles of divided highway in the US and Canada, all without requiring your hand on the wheel. Not only do you have to press a button to trigger Caddy's assistant – unlike the wakeword offered in other luxury cars – it's fairly restrained in its capabilities. It's not the first such system we've seen but it works well, though I'd probably trade it for more capable voice control. That beams a view of the road ahead to the driver's display, and then overlays upcoming turns on top of that dynamically. Headline feature is probably the augmented reality navigation, which comes standard on every 2021 Escalade trim. It's a shame, as this latest version is so fast and responsive, you really do want to reach out and start swiping. There's no easy split-screen view to allow apps to co-exist. ![]() Load up Apple CarPlay or Android Auto – either wirelessly or with the USB Type-A or -C ports on offer – and the interface floats in a sea of inky OLED black, for instance. ![]() The new infotainment UI is a big step forward over existing Cadillac models, though I'm not sure it takes full advantage of the screen real-estate on offer. The 2021 Escalade ESV will get even longer, its extended wheelbase upgrading the maximum cargo space to 142.8 cu-ft. You get 25.5 cu-ft of cargo space with the third row up, or almost 73 cu-ft with it down drop the second row, and you're looking at 120.9 cu-ft. It'd be a devil to keep clean but it looks and feels great and, combined with the long glass roof and all that headroom, leaves the interior feeling incredibly spacious. This Whisper Beige interior combines soft semi-aniline leather with real metal and unique wood appliqués, broken up with bands of technical fabric that feel like linen rather than plastic. I like Cadillac's willingness to experiment, too. I wouldn't be surprised if the third row was your third choice for a place to sit, but the longer wheelbase and suspension changes mean enough legroom for adults to avoid having their knees up by their ears this time. The first and second rows are positively plush, with big, comfortable seats and plenty of space. Throw in Night Vision, power retractable side steps, a cooler in the front center console, and the heavy-duty trailering package, and you're looking at spending just shy of $110,000. A tremendous 36-speaker AKG system soft-close doors rear seat entertainment with twin HDMI inputs a head-up display panoramic roof rear camera mirror ventilation and massage for the first row adjustable ambient lighting and extra leather wrapping for the trim along with a suede headliner. Only leatherette seats and no blind spot warnings seem an anomaly on the spec list, something the $84,290 (plus destination) Premium Luxury addresses.īy the time you reach the Sport Platinum of my test car, starting at $104,290 (plus destination), things are positively lavish. The entry-level Luxury trim (from $77,490 plus $1,295 destination) gets a 19-speaker AKG audio system 4G LTE with WiFi heating for the steering wheel, and first and second row seats keyless entry and remote start a power third row tri-zone climate control wireless phone charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. ![]()

Since those early days, lead singer Jeremy Bolm, guitarists Nick Steinhardt and Clayton Stevens, bassist Tyler Kirby, and drummer Elliot Babin have created a trajectory for themselves through hard work and dedication. This gig has shown hope for all post-hardcore/punk bands and we are looking forward to what Touché Amoré release next.Los Angeles artful indie post hardcore band Touché Amoré have announced a new album, Stage Four, to be released September 16 on Epitaph.įormed in Burbank, California, across 20, the band's urgent sound, with its melodic sonic assault and impassioned vocals, has grown tighter and more refined through a trio of full-length albums and a series of EPÍs and releases. We certainly know that this show will leave a noise in our ears, reminding us that next time we want to attend a Touché Amoré show, we should bring earplugs, because rumors are true, they are extremely loud. Most-recent song, Deflector, proves to be well-loved by the whole room and shows that Touché Amoré are better than ever and have well and truly been welcomed back by UK fans.Įnding the set with ‘~’, the opening track to 2011 album, ‘Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me’, was a nostalgic way to end the set as the crowd sang along ‘I’ll be the ringing in your ears, that will stick around for years’. Although the tone of the songs could definitely be described as emo, this doesn’t stop the energy in the room as crowd-surfers and mosh pits set the revitalised vibe. Touché Amoré are honest, empathetic, loving and hopeful with their lyrics and the fans in the crowd soak it all up from start to finish. ‘Flowers and You’ in particular pulled on the crowd’s heartstrings from their 2016 album ‘ Stage Four‘ in which the songs were inspired by the passing of Jeremy Bolm’s mother due to cancer. The set list not only featured songs from this album, but took the crowd through a journey that illustrated Touché Amoré’s longevity as a band. Taking the headline slot for Manchester’s date of the co-headline tour, Touché Amoré gave the fans exactly what they wanted by playing ‘ To the Beat of a Dead Horse‘ front to back. With all the energy in a performance a member of a live show could hope for, Deafheaven played a set we would never forget, which is exactly what anyone would expect from a band which is spoken of with such high calibre. The mass of people in the room showed nothing more than adoration for the band as they closed with this black metal (with hints of shoegaze) track. Half of their set-list featured songs from their 2018 album, ‘ Ordinary Corrupt Human Love‘, which all captured the attention of those hardcore Deafheaven fans in the front row, but it was Dream House from the album ‘ Sunbather‘ which was released in 2013 that won over everyone in the crowd. The contrast of Clarke’s performance being delicate yet belligerent on stage was something we had failed to have seen before. George Clarke’s vocals conducted the performance of the band as well as the audience subtly. Next came Deafheaven, who were greeted with a simple loud round of applause which all seemed a bit too formal considering the tone of the performance we were about to bare witness to. Portrayal of Guilt definitely gained some new fans that night. Due to the uncertainty of what order Touché Amoré or Deafheaven would be playing, fans from all sorts of music backgrounds turned up early to fill the room and were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an impressive support act. Matt King’s vocals were deafeningly loud however, the crowd seemed to enjoy what they heard as when we looked around the room, everyone was banging their head in sync with the music, taking it all in. Whilst blending genres of hardcore, post-hardcore and punk, what stood out in their live performance the most was their musicianship and how they merged all these different sounds together on stage. After recently releasing a split EP last month with post-punk band, Soft Kill, we were very much looking forward to what they had to offer in terms of their live show. Kicking off proceedings was Portrayal of Guilt, who have carved their names into the new era of screamo over the past two years. Manchester welcomed Touché Amoré and close friends, Deafheaven, with open arms for a night to remember at Academy 2. With this year marking the ten-year anniversary of Touché Amoré’s arguably most-loved album, ‘ To the Beat of a Dead Horse‘, it would only be right for the California-based post-hardcore band to embark on a month long tour across two continents to celebrate. Tao uptown new york8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() Tao Uptown is located on East 58th Street (between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue) in the Midtown East/Theatre District of Manhattan. Tao is open Monday through Saturday for lunch, Sunday for brunch, and daily for dinner. We booked a table using the Open Table reservation system, and the hostess seated us immediately upon arrival despite the crowded restaurant. We checked our Open Table app to find nearby restaurants with availability, and Tao seemed to fit our needs – it had a table available, it was located nearby, and we were familiar with the restaurant name. We had planned to eat farther uptown at a restaurant where we had a gift card, but we realized en route to that restaurant that we did not have the card with us, so we made an alternate plan. Grab some popcorn and a Cherry Coke Zero and kick your feet up.My spouse and I dined for lunch at Tao Uptown on a Saturday afternoon in late December 2014. You won't like it if you don't like horror, but the title is "American Psycho" and the cover has a man with a knife, so you know what you're getting yourself into. It's possibly Bale's best, or at least the one that pushed him into the spotlight. Clearly, I really want you to see this film. But the vast majority is shot from such angles that it's almost all left to the imagination: you think you see more than you really do. threesomes and science-knows-what done with a coat hangar. I guess I should also compliment them on the tasteful way (read: artistic) the sex and violence was done. ![]() Not so much on the Robert Palmer or Whitney Houston. This film, along with the gentlemen I go to the tavern with, really got me into Huey Lewis and Phil Collins. The book does a fine job of elaborating on the music of the 1980s, and I think they incorporated that well here (throwing it in to death scenes rather than as solo pieces adds an interesting twist). Besides the great acting (the real reason to watch this), the music is very noteworthy. The little dance during the Huey Lewis scene (one I have heard he added himself) remains for me one of the two key scenes (the other involving a chainsaw). As Bateman, he is perfectly self-absorbed and also maniacally distant. Bale is able to be any character he wants (comapre this to "Batman Begins", "The Prestige" and especially "The Machinist" and see if there's any of the same characters here). Bale was the perfect choice to play Bateman and I'm glad director Mary Harron would settle for no one else (turning down Ed Norton, who gets compared to Bale but remains inferior). But, of course, stealing the show is Christian Bale. Chloe Sevigny (one of my favorites), Jared Leto, Reese Witherspoon (not my favorite but good for her role) and Gwen Turner. ![]() Even those looking for a horror film might be let down, as that isn't the real focus here. or just be really confused by the style (the directing is weird, but actually pretty straight-forward once you've read the book). Some (like myself) will love every little aspect, while others might be turned off my the sex and violence. or capitalist? This film explains there might not be much difference and perhaps shows us why serial killers in the 1980s were more celebrated than any time before or since in popular culture. Patrick Bateman is a heartless man with no concern for those around him. ![]() Knewkey keyboard for ipad8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() When that happens, the next few keystrokes were lost while it woke up and reconnected with the computer. In Bluetooth mode, the keyboard fell asleep too quickly. We often - well, often enough to be annoying - accidentally hit the Caps Lock key when going for Shift or A, possibly because our usual keyboard leaves some extra space around Caps Lock while the Rymek's is spaced the same as all the other keys. KnewKey is considering a slimmer design for a follow-up model. That might not sound a lot, but in our case getting comfortable meant raising the chair to a point where our legs only just fit under the desk. That retro styling means the keyboard is much thicker than we've become accustomed to, and depending on exactly where you measure the keys are around 15mm higher than our usual keyboard. Indiegogo backers also receive a soft nylon cleaning brush to remove dust from the keyboard (the glossy black finish plus backlighting makes any debris quite apparent) and a keycap puller – though it's not difficult to remove the keycaps, as we discovered when we had to swap the + and – keys that had been reversed at the factory.Īs much as we liked the Rymek, it does have some drawbacks. If you prefer to save a few dollars, a version with Gateron Blue switches is US$99/US$199. The full price will be US$229 plus shipping. This version is currently available for US$119 plus shipping (warning: this is a fairly heavy product, so shipping will likely be pricy) via Indiegogo. If you don't like an audible click, MX Brown switches are an option. The (pre-production?) sample we received uses the well-regarded Cherry MX Blue key switches that provide a very retro and pleasant typing experience for those who have been using computers since the 70s or 80s. ![]() ![]() Your reviewer is notoriously hard on keycaps, and his keyboards have been known to show signs of wear after as little as a week's use – but that was not the case with the Rymek. The keycaps are moulded from a slightly translucent white plastic with an opaque, bronze coloured skin. Unlike real typewriters, the Rymek has backlights under each key, and a row of lights above the keys echoes the appearance of typebars. ![]() Civilization revolution guide8/28/2023 ![]() ![]()

Wilco’s album, A.M., came out first and had some good songs – Box Full of Letters, Passenger Side – but didn’t hold a candle to Trace. I only caught one Uncle Tupelo show, at Tramp’s in NYC on December 9th, 1993.Īt first, there was broad consensus that Son Volt was better than Wilco. Boon, True to Life…the soundtrack to my senior year. Every one of those albums is great – I still listen to them – but it was Still Feel Gone that knocked me over the head. I jumped on the Uncle Tupelo bandwagon in 1991-1992, when my college roommate returned from some vacation or other with three new CDs: Bird Brain by Buffalo Tom, Joyrides for Shut-Ins by The Cavedogs, and Still Feel Gone by Uncle Tupelo. As everyone knows, those two bands grew out of Uncle Tupelo who – along with The Jayhawks, The Bottle Rockets, and a few others – at least embodied but possibly invented “alt country” with its Americana themes and acoustic/electric blend. It was exciting to see those early Son Volt shows, in part because the music was so good, but also because of the Son Volt vs. In the end, we conferred with the bartender, who understood – sort of – and was doing pretty well that night anyway. We considered leaving movie passes, which we’d purchased at a discount through some program at our place of employment, but decided that was too ridiculous/embarrassing. I think we had enough money for one more round, but not enough to leave a tip. And, we couldn’t go to the ATM, because we had great seats at the bar during a long show in a crowded room AND there was a huge line outside. But my friend James and I were young, and either didn’t have credit cards, or were afraid to use them. I know, this shouldn’t have been a problem. First, a member of the audience called out for Tear-Stained Eye at the exact right time, prompting Jay Farrar to actually say something other than “thank you” on stage: “Did you have the set list in advance?” More importantly, I remember running out of cash. I have two vivid but not-very-interesting memories of that CMJ show. It was a CMJ show at Brownie’s on August 7th, 1995. In fact, this one happened before Trace came out, and would have been the first time most of us heard Windfall, Tear-Stained Eye, Drown, etc. What’s more, Son Volt played only one show that night, though the venue always required artists to perform two shows.Īs I listened to that show – which was, by the way, incendiary – I recalled another Son Volt show I saw during their early days. I saw all those acts and many more at The Bottom Line, but loud, electric bands were a rarity. I went to The Bottom Line a lot in those days, in part because I lived around the corner at Bleecker and MacDougal, but more because Allan Pepper presented the acts I was learning from: singer/songwriters like Townes Van Zant, Guy Clark, James McMurtry, Steve Forbert, Steve Earle, Ferron, Bill Morrissey, and Greg Brown. ![]() Like radio broadcasts, webcasts etc.The reissue of Son Volt’s classic first album includes a Bottom Line show that I attended on February 12th, 1996. Maybe it's time for Transmit Sound to give us another clarification of what's OK and what's not. I thought I knew Jay's rules, but I could be mistaken. It may sound like I was being somewhat of a tattle-tale, but I just didn't want anyone doing anything that would jeopardize the torrenting/trading of Jay's music for everyone else. I was a little confused to say the least. They said that Jay's policy says nothing about radio broadcasts. When I brought the radio torrent to the mods, they had no idea what I was talking about. Sticky was the first person to alert me to it and then one of the viachicago mods pulled the torrent. That one really puzzled me because two months earlier, I posted the very same torrent and was told to take it down because Jay's policy of not allowing taping/trading of soundboard recordings also applied to radio broadcasts. I refused to download it but they did not seem too concerned about it.Īt the same time this one was up, there was another one called "Acoustic Radio Sessions" that they were OK with. Gorgeous songs such as 'Windfall' and 'Tear Stained Eye' are but a few of the albums highlights. When this torrent went up on, I brought it to the attention of the mods because a number of the tracks were official releases.
